The Ordinary TMall
Brief
We had to create three video assets for the launch of three different products made by renowned skincare brand The Ordinary.
Firstly, we had to create a teaser consisting of an 8-second video teasing a Niacinamide product, with a silhouette theme. Following this, we’d need to create a 15-second launch video introducing the three products, showcasing each in its own unique way. Lastly, a 6-15 second social video was to be produced, further introducing the three products for the online audience.
Process
TMall Teaser – After building the models, we designed a clean lab scene with props and created complex particle animations in Blender and Cinema 4D. Achieving the right lighting was the biggest challenge, leading us to use light linking to control how lights affected specific objects and allow easy post-render tweaks. Finally, we added a dramatic soundtrack in Adobe Audition to complete the piece.
TMall Launch – The client provided a clear brief, including showcasing specific products and ending with them forming an “O.” We built detailed 3D models, developed a real-time liquid system, and used advanced caustics and physics simulations for realism. After refining animation, lighting, and transitions, we rendered the final video with sound and light effects for a polished finish.
TMall Social – After storyboards were approved, we imported 3D models into Cinema 4D to animate dynamic product motion, then moved to Blender to add realistic liquids and refine lighting using light linking. Final rendering and compositing were done in After Effects, where we added the animated TMALL cat, logos, and sound design to complete the video.
Results
All of this work resulted in a final-product that exceeded the client’s expectations, leading to a successful product launch, and a strengthening of our already strong relationship with an industry-leading client.
