Scare City 2024 – Web

Brief

Following the success of the event in previous years, particularly in 2023, this year’s Scare City Experience was all about refinement and enhancement. That is, to refine the experience further in order to enhance the experience for the audience. It is this ethos that informed our decision making in the design and build of the website for this year, as well as the additional content created for new and existing zones.

Process

Such was the success of last year’s website and event, including our overhauling of the booking system, we opted for retaining many of the existing components for 2024’s Scare City website. However, additional dynamic flourishes included animations on titles and paragraphs, such as flickering and sliding – creating an effect perfect for our horror theme.

The biggest change was the development of an entirely new section, in which we could give the audience a real taste of how each scare zone would look and feel. This included movie-poster-esque cards with accompanying animations. For example, when sliding over the card for Carnivalley, the eye of the clown would follow your mouse cursor, or hovering over Vallis Mortis would make hands appear from the sides of the screen.

Testimonials

“We felt that these dynamic, interactive components would add an extra ‘scare’ to the experience for visitors as they book tickets and prepare for what comes next. A scary website is essential for a horror attraction – so we delivered one.”
