Sofa Club World Cup 2026: The Home Advantage

Late kick-offs & long nights. The best seat for the World Cup was already at home

Brief

The 2026 World Cup was creating a different kind of opportunity for Sofa Club. With 104 matches across 40 days and UK kick-offs stretching from early evening to past midnight, watching every game from the pub wasn’t going to be practical. Late nights, last-minute plans and packed living rooms were about to make home one of the most important places to watch the tournament.

For Sofa Club, that shift in behaviour presented a natural commercial opportunity. With modular sofas made for changing spaces and next-day delivery giving customers the ability to upgrade their setup at the last minute, the brand had a credible reason to enter the World Cup conversation. Our brief was to turn that advantage into a disruptive, fashion-forward creative platform capable of building brand awareness while supporting Sofa Club across paid and organic social, email and web.

But this couldn’t look or sound like traditional furniture advertising with a football dropped into it. Sofa Club challenged us to create something culturally relevant and provocative, aimed at Gen Z and younger Millennials and true to a brand that sees itself as an interior style destination rather than simply somewhere to buy a sofa.

Process

We started with the behaviour, not the football. As the tournament moved later into the evening, the living room had the potential to become the new match-day destination. From that insight, we developed a series of creative territories exploring Sofa Club’s right to enter the World Cup conversation, ultimately landing on Home Advantage: a platform that positioned staying in not as the compromise, but as the better way to experience the tournament. It gave us a simple idea with enough flexibility to work across Sofa Club’s brand world while naturally connecting back to the commercial strengths of modular sofas and next-day delivery.

From there, Home Advantage became a complete creative campaign toolkit, built around the rituals, language and personalities of football culture but seen through Sofa Club’s distinctive, fashion-led lens. Match-day moments became opportunities to put the sofa at the centre of the action, with headlines such as The Real Star Player using a cheeky play on football language to make the product part of the conversation. Rather than dressing traditional furniture advertising up for the World Cup, we created a campaign world where football culture and Sofa Club’s personality could genuinely coexist.

The platform was then developed into a flexible suite of campaign creative spanning organic social, paid media, email, web and in-store activation, giving Sofa Club the creative system needed to carry Home Advantage across the full customer journey. The modular range could flex around growing watch parties and last-minute plus-ones, while next-day delivery gave the campaign a genuine commercial edge: if your current setup wasn’t match-ready, Sofa Club could do something about it before kick-off. In- store activation extended the idea into Sofa Club’s showrooms, helping turn the campaign into an opportunity to drive customers through the doors as well as online.

What began as a brief for a disruptive World Cup idea ultimately became a fully commissioned multi-channel creative platform. From the strategic territory and campaign identity through to the individual executions, we created a toolkit designed to give Sofa Club one recognisable idea it could own throughout one of the biggest cultural moments of 2026.

Outcome

What started as a brief to find Sofa Club’s place in the World Cup conversation became Home Advantage, a fully commissioned creative platform built to live across the brand’s marketing ecosystem. The final toolkit gave Sofa Club a consistent campaign idea to activate across organic social, paid media, email, web and its showroom estate, connecting the campaign across digital and physical touchpoints while giving the brand flexibility to respond to different moments throughout the tournament.

More importantly, the campaign gave Sofa Club a credible way into football culture without asking the brand to behave like a sports brand. By connecting the realities of late-night kick-offs, home viewing and last-minute hosting with modular sofas and next-day delivery, Home Advantage turned a cultural moment into a commercial one, while staying true to the disruptive, fashion-led personality Sofa Club had challenged us to protect.

From the original strategic thinking through to the finished multi-channel toolkit, the idea was taken forward and commissioned in full, giving Sofa Club a distinctive creative platform for one of the biggest cultural moments of 2026. No borrowed football clichés. No traditional furniture advertising. Just a simple idea built around a genuine shift in how people would experience the tournament: when home becomes the match-day destination, Sofa Club gives you the best seat in the house.
