WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging apps; due in part to the developers’ devotion to updating the application regularly. Already, there have been multiple rumours about updates that WhatsApp will be rolling out throughout 2019. Each update is geared towards bettering the user experience. Here’s what we know so far:
One of the more exciting updates that WhatsApp is rolling out this year is the ‘Reply Privately’ feature. It allows users to select messages within a group chat and reply to their sender individually, rather than within the group. Great for minimising excessive messages on work group chats! Not to mention making responding easier for nervous people on chats full of people they don’t know well.
Dark mode is simply a feature that switches the lighting around on the app so that the background is black and the writing is lighter. This simple change will reduce eye strain significantly. It means that users can message on the app for longer, without causing as much damage to their eyes.
By keeping conversations with people that you regularly talk to at the top of your chat page. WhatsApp endeavours to make it easier for you to talk to the people that you want to talk to, more quickly.
The only exception to the user experience geared updates is the advert driven update, which is set to generate more targeted adverts for the users, similarly to Facebook. Though most users would rather use the app without adverts, WhatsApp’s devotion to crafting an app that people rely on as part of their day to day lives means that it’s unlikely that they’ll discontinue using it, which means it’s a great time to consider advertising on the platform.
